What inspired you to create Blazers and Bellinis?

I started my blog Blazers & Bellinis in September 2013 as a hobby really, a place to express my creativity and unique style. I have worked with so many amazing bloggers throughout my career in fashion marketing/pr and they actually encouraged and supported me to start my own blog. I also felt that there was a large gap in the market for “curvy” plus size women in fashion. I wanted to throw away the negative stereotypes, style has no shape or size. I have been working in the fashion industry with many different designers for over 6 years now, Blazers & Bellinis is my space to say or wear whatever I want, and that is a great feeling. No one can tell me what to do or say, it’s my own personal style journal.

Please share some of the aspects of blogging that you enjoy?

I literally love playing dress up in my closet. Ever since I was a little girl I always mixed patterns, shapes and reinvented my style from day to day. As a blogger, I get to work with some amazing brands as an Ambassador from the East Coast to the West Coast and create everyday “style posts” featuring their new collections. It is so much fun! I love networking and meeting new designers, I especially love watching designers and brands grow throughout the years. As a blogger, I am constantly shooting fashion looks, and styling outfits that I think would appeal to my readers. This was very hard for me in the beginning, because I am not a model (haha)! I am usually on the other end of a shoot styling them. My two main photographers are my mom and sister, so it also gives us some fun “girl time” to bond. They definitely loosen me up and get me to laugh during these shoots. I also really enjoy the writing part of being a blogger, getting to express my feelings through each post. Let’s not forget to mention all of the fabulous clothes and accessories I receive, that always brightens my day! #PerksofaBlogger

You also work in the Fashion Industry for a well respected jewelry designer. Can you share your experiences within the style realm that have helped shape who you are.

I have been working in the fashion industry for many years, even though I am young in age, I am an old soul. I attended the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale for Fashion Merchandising & Design. I started my career working in Fashion PR and marketing, that really helped shape me into a “people person” and learning how to be a well rounded individual in this industry. I was heavily involved in runway production, which is extremely high stress and taught me how to deal with a team in stressful situations and be organized. I am currently the Creative Director for Freida Rothman, which has now expanded into a full fledged lifestyle brand with a recent launch of eyewear and small leather goods, in addition to beautiful elegant and effortless jewelry.  Working in fashion hasn’t always been easy, it’s definitely not always “as glamorous as it looks.”

I have worked extremely hard to get to where I am, all of my past experiences shaped me into the person I am today. You have to have thick skin to work in this industry, not everyone will always see eye-to-eye with you and you will have to work through a lot of criticism. Some advice to my fellow fashion lovers looking to pave the way: never burn any bridges, always put your best foot forward, don’t be a yes person (don’t be afraid to stand up and voice your opinions), and dream even bigger… you can never settle.

What is the message over at Blazers and Bellinis? How do you want your readers to feel after visiting your website?

The goal of Blazers & Bellinis is to prove that fashion doesn’t have to be so serious. I want to motivate and empower other women- spread confidence that it does not matter what shape/size/race/income you are, hold your head up and be fabulous everyday!  I want my readers to feel inspired after reading one of my posts. I try to make them as personal as possible, and really show my personality. I want people to feel like they are taking something good away after looking at my blog, and are getting to know me on a personal level.

The world can be a competitive place. Share some of your tips for making it in the city and standing apart from the crowd.

The world is an extremely competitive place, and the fashion industry is definitely coat throat (I won’t sugar coat it). I am so lucky to be surrounded by such an amazing group of individuals that support each other and inspire one another. I want to remind people that your own personal branding statement is how people feel after an experience or a direct interaction with you. Always be positive and optimistic, nobody likes to be around a negative Nancy! You have to give your work 150% every single time, you have to push harder then everyone else. Be unique and always stay true to yourself, that’s what will make you really stand out from the crowd.
