With New York Fashion Week in full swing, it’s hard to know which events are worth stopping by. We were lucky enough to been invited to check out the Japanese Beauty Gallery presented by Shiseido over the weekend. The pop-up, which ran from September 6th through 9th, celebrated the launch of their newest makeup collection.

Guests first enter through four Instagram-worthy rooms that brought to life the new makeup textures featured in the collection: gel, ink, powder and dew. Once through the room, you can try out the collection first hand, where makeup artists are on standby to educate you on the new products and even do makeup touch ups.

Downstairs, guests can get a glimpse of the Tokyo Underground Lounge, where you’ll spy a stunning Japanese photo exhibit by director and photographer Mike Rosenthal, as well as a mini bar serving up Japanese whisky cocktails by Suntory.

For the guests who reserved seats at the “Tasting Table,” you were then led into a small, four-seat tabletop where celebrity chef Jeremy Fall led you through his four-course tasting menu. Again, the menu was inspired by the four textures featured in the collection and had a Japanese theme. Here’s what we ate: (Dew) oyster with cucumber-finger lime mignonette, crispy and raw garlic, golden togarashi, Bloody Mary soy sauce and toasted sesame; (Powder) soba noodles with black garlic ponzu, yuzu kosho-pickled daikon and carrot, crispy garlic, nori, furikake, wasabi ranch and wasabi powder; (Ink) red snapper with squid ink, sushi rice, chili and lime corn nuts, pink peppercorn, cherry tomatoes, avocado, garlic Tapatio and charred broccolini; and (Gel) boba with lychee gelee, Fruit Loops cereal milk and bourbon.

And while the tasting menu was to die for, the real star at this pop-up was the makeup. The packaging itself is sleek and minimalistic, making it easy to fit in any purse. The line proves how innovative Shiseido is, with super light-weight and breathable formulas that you can barely even feel when you apply them. The lip colors come in different finishes — gel, matte and liquid gloss so no matter what look you’re going for, they’ve got you covered (and they have great staying power!). We also fell in love with their highlighters and their makeup brushes were probably the softest we’ve ever used. We can’t wait to stock up!
