Leader in Cancer Research
A valued member of Mount Sinai Medical Center for more than 40 years, Dr. Samuel Waxman holds a variety of positions, including Distinguished Service Professor of Medicine and Oncologic Sciences at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, among others. He is also the founder and CEO of the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to eradicating cancer and developing minimally toxic therapies for cancer patients.
Dr. Waxman’s newest initiative is the SWCRF Partnership for Aging and Cancer, which aspires to build a $20 million multi-year funding program for collaborative research that examines the genetic and environmental factors that promote increased incidence of cancers among people as they age.
Dr. Waxman has authored more than 300 scientific papers and was among the first to study differentiation as a cancer therapy. He has also written chapters in textbooks on hematology, chemotherapy and nutrition, and two books, “Differentiation Therapy” and “The Leukemia Cell.”WaxmanCancer.org

Philanthropic Power Couple
Recognized as one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the nation, R. Donahue (Don) Peebles is founder, chairman, and CEO of The Peebles Corporation, one of the country’s few national privately-held real estate investment and development companies with a portfolio of projects in New York, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Boston, Miami Beach, and Charlotte, North Carolina. Mr. Peebles also is a top-selling author of “The Peebles Principles” and “The Peebles Path to Real Estate Wealth,” as well as a media expert and speaker.
Peebles is the former chairman of the board of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation ad the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau, was a two-time former member of President Barack Obama’s National Finance Committee, and currently serves on the board of directors of the YMCA of Greater New York.
Upon graduating with a B.S. in journalism, Katrina Peebles began a marketing career at Carter, Hawley, and Hale (parent company of Neiman Marcus) in San Francisco. Later, she spearheaded the Peebles Corporation real estate tax appeal business, which became the most successful real estate tax appeal firm in the District of Columbia. In the mid-1990s, after the launch of Peebles Atlantic Development Corporation, Mrs. Peebles guided marketing efforts and promotions for mixed-use developments, including The Royal Palm and The Residences at The Bath Club. She is currently lending her design and marketing expertise to 108 Leonard, the Peebles Corporation’s Tribeca development of 156 luxury condos.
