It’s time to relive your childhood dreams at the 41st edition of the Big Apple Circus! While circus’s have been controversial over the years, this one is anything but. Running at Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park through January 27th, this circus features amazing feats, plenty of laughs, and fun festival food.
Guests will be able to mix, mingle and satiate their appetites in the Hall of Wonders, which houses the concessions by Hospitality Made Simple and Chef Harris Mayer-Selinger. The food menu consists of classic circus favorites like popcorn and corndogs and sweet treats like Chloe’s slushies and cotton candy. Additionally, those looking to put an adult spin on the circus can sip on craft cocktails by mixology Pamela Wiznitzer (one of them even comes in a balloon animal cup!).
But the real magic takes place in the infamous one ring circus inside. The very intimate tent makes for a great show, ensuring that no seat is more than 50 feet from the performers. Everyone has a great view! The show has the perfect balance of stunning acrobatics and comedic clown acts, making it a show for all — adults and children will both fall in love. Adam Kuchler does a great job of entertaining the audience, along with ringmaster Stephanie Monseu. Between Duo Fusion’s insane acrobatics, an energetic trampoline act, aerialists, juggling, a balancing ladder act, rescue horses and dogs, and trapeze artists, it’s hard to say what impressed us the most. You’re sure to let out a few gasps and “oh my god!”‘s while watching. One of the best elements of this circus is that the only animals involved are rescues that are cared for by certified animal trainer Jenny Vidbel. When they aren’t performing they live with her on a ranch in upstate New York. And let me tell you, these furry friends inspired a lot of “awww”s from the crowd.
Opening night brought out a lot of famous faces. Celebrity ringmaster Tinsley Mortimer was cheered on by her fellow Real Housewives of New York cast, while Coco Rocha brought her family to see the show. The Big Apple Circus will bring back all of those exciting childhood feels so be sure to nab some tickets before their run ends!
