With a foundation built on music, Nashville is quickly becoming one of America’s top destination cities. From the world-famous Grand Ole Opry, Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, and historic Ryman Auditorium, music is a common thread connecting the life and soul of the city and its people.

Throughout the very walkable and friendly “Music City,” you’ll find an abundance of local southern dining options (think BBQ and ribs), as well as upscale venues for more sophisticated palates. Downtown on Broadway are the world-famous honky-tonks that play free, live music 365 days a year and are main attractions for the city’s locals and millions of visitors it entertains each year.

Also, don’t be surprised if you run into one of Nashville’s famous residents (they boast quite a few!) as you explore all the city has to offer. Famous residents include Brad and Kimberly Paisley, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman, and Martina McBride.

The Nashville Insider: Joey DeGraw

Joey DeGraw is known worldwide as an accomplished singer-songwriter and musician, but he has also become quite the successful developer and entrepreneur, with his latest project opening on Nashville’s famous Honky Tonk Highway–lower Broadway.

What’s the best thing about living in Nashville?

To be a part of a young, growing city and feeling like you’re contributing to that growth. Plus, the friendly nature of state taxes are extremely attractive for investors and business owners.

What was your vision when developing Nashville’s hottest new venue, Nashville Underground?

Because I have been in Nashville for so long (10 years), I saw what those visiting wanted, which was to experience the culture of the town—its food, music, spirits, and hospitality. Nashville is constantly rated among the top friendliest cities in America, and that is a big part of our brand. Nashville Underground truly pays homage to Music City.

As an accomplished musician and successful entrepreneur, how do you balance music with your other passions?

They are almost the same to me in a way, because writing a song is a development project on a much smaller scale. It’s all some sort of construction at the end of the day. I am also finding a huge amount of creativity in building a brand, and the architecture/design elements are intriguing.

The 40,000-square-foot, live music venue, restaurant, bar, and event space owned by brothers Joey and Gavin DeGraw showcases Nashville’s world-famous music, cuisine, and spirits. A 13 million dollar renovation that began in 2016 evolved the space from 1,600 square feet to the expansive venue it is now.

With three stages, a fireplace, a DJ booth, and video dance floor, multi-genre music is featured seven days a week.

Boasting the highest, largest and only double deck rooftop on Broadway, Nashville Underground delivers an intimate experience where you can drink, taste, and hear Nashville.

In the heart of downtown on historic Broadway, Nashville Underground has four large floors. The first and second floor menu highlights Nashville’s unique culinary palette, using locally sourced ingredients to create southern cuisine such as Nashville Hot Chicken and BBQ, smoked in-house daily. The multi-level rooftop menu includes a wide variety of tapas, gourmet flat breads, and a raw bar. All four bars include a wide selection of locally crafted wine and spirits, as well as the coldest draft beer in Nashville, at 29 degrees.

The décor, designed by Anderson Design Group, reflects a vintage industrial ambiance, paying homage to the historic transfer warehouse the building originated as and celebrating the long history of Music City. Combining all the elements that make Nashville so unique, Nashville Underground fully encompasses the city.
