Freedom From Cellulite: The Break Through Treatment You Need To Know About

| August 18, 2014 | Reply

In previous blogs I have shared with you the newest and most innovative treatments to address various cosmetic issues. Now we discuss Cellulite and treatment with the leading-edge technology, Cellulaze, which I recently had the pleasure of discussing on the Dr. Oz show.

There is something about the word Cellulite that tends to uncover insecurity in the most confident of women. Over 80% of women suffer with cellulite and it is one of the most stubborn problems for cosmetic doctors to treat. Many women have tried every treatment, lotion, gadget, patch and cream on the market in a failed attempt to diminish or completely eradicate the rippled skin and dimples associated with cellulite.  These over-the-counter “cures” for cellulite over-promise but delivered no real results to treat this nagging condition. Then there are the spa treatments, massages, and suction machines which cost a fortune over time but only offer temporary results at best. The problem with all of these treatments is that they are only addressing the skin’s surface and Cellulite is caused by structures within our body below the surface of the skin. Creams and topical treatments do not penetrate deep enough to get to the underlining problem. The time has come for a real solution with real results for cellulite treatment.

What exactly is cellulite?

Cellulite is most recognizable by tell-tale uneven “cottage cheese” textured skin on the body. Areas typically include: thighs, buttocks, stomach, arms and knees. Cellulite affects the vast majority of women, and even young girls and some men. Some factors that contribute to the appearance of cellulite are: gender, genetics, hormones, age, and weigh fluxuation. Cellulite surfaces when the fibers under the skins surface tighten and allow some of the existing fat cells to push outward causing a lumpy, dimpled appearance. Thin skin, which can happen with age and hormones, can make the condition that much more visible.

Rest assured that there is finally a solution for those of you who are affected by cellulite. This solution is a medical procedure that is FDA approved and is changing the lives of women. For many of you reading this, your solution may be Cellulaze.

What is Cellulaze?

Cellulaze™, created by Cynosure, Inc is an FDA approved minimally invasive, one-time surgical treatment for cellulite-with long lasting results. Cellulaze works by targeting the structure of cellulite from under the skin. This powerful laser system delivers energy which is targeted to release the brittle fibers under the skin to smooth out dimples, melt protruding fat to reduce lumpiness and thicken the skin  producing smoother, healthier looking skin in a single treatment.

How does Cellulaze work?

A very small tube called a cannula is inserted under the skin to deliver energy right where it’s needed. This energy increases the depth and quality of your skin, while simultaneously releasing the fibrous bands that pull it inward and create that unwanted dimpling look. The laser energy is also used to diminish the unsightly pockets of fat that protrude though the fibrous bands under your skin. Unlike existing cellulite laser treatments that utilize radio frequency or laser energy on the outside of the skin, Cellulaze fights cellulite from under the skin to precisely target the structures and fat pockets that cause cellulite.

Cellulaze works in three ways:

It melts the fat that is bulging into the skin’s dermal layer eliminating those lumps, bumps and peaks. It cuts the connective tissues that pull on the skin which removes the dimples and valleys and, finally, it stimulates the production of collagen in the skin resulting in a thicker and younger looking skin surface.

Who is the ideal candidate for treatment with Cellulaze?

If you have mild to moderate cellulite on your legs, upper and lower thighs and abdomen are at your ideal weight and are in good health this could be a procedure for you. For certain patients, a combination of procedures may be suggested to optimize body contouring. This could include liposuction, smart lipo, or tightening treatments.

What is the treatment like?

Cellulaze is a one time treatment performed in my office and takes about 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated. You are awake during the procedure and can listen to music or just rest. The area being treated is numbed with a solution that is introduced into the skin through two tiny incisions, about the thickness of a pencil point. Once you are numb, the thin laser fiber is inserted through the same tiny entry sites and strategically guided, with several passes, to treat your cellulite. There is minimal discomfort during the procedure and after a few days of rest, patients are back to their normal lifestyle and activities.

What makes it different from other cellulite treatments?

Cellulaze is the first technology that goes under the skin surface to directly treat the actual biological structures causing cellulite. Cellulaze targets cellulite precisely at the source, in the underlying structural tissue. Topicals and non-invasive treatments cannot compare to this sophisticated laser treatment.

What are the expected results?

While results are typically seen from 3-6 months after the procedure, some of my patients have seen almost immediate results and further improvements over 6-12 months. As you, and your skin, age, you may benefit from a touch up to maintain results.
