Here are a few action steps to get you started.
1. Think about the things you like to do.
One of the easiest places to discover your passion is in the things you’re continuously drawn to. For example, if you cook for hours on end and really enjoy it, this is an indication that there is something more there to be explored.
2. Explore your curiosity.
There is always something that piques our curiosity, but we’re either too busy or too apprehensive to take the initiative and explore it. Now is the time to take the reins and see why this “thing” is so intriguing. You may be pleasantly surprised to find a hidden talent to add to your repertoire.
3. Be willing to try.
Nothing beats giving something new a try. When trying new things, you usually find out what you wanted to know and so much more. You may even discover that you are not really intrigued by that activity, but are more interested in something else you discovered in the process.
4. Look at everything as a learning experience.
No matter what the situation, consider it a learning experience. Passion can be cultivated once you have determined what it is you really love. You may not be an expert in your passion, but being passionate about something automatically gives you the drive to want to do better and excel in your craft. There, you will find your strengths, weaknesses, and resolve to keep going.
5. Take money out of the equation.
When discovering your passion, money should never be a consideration. When operating in your passion, it is something you enjoy doing for free; the money will come. There is nothing better than doing what you love – it’s like not working at all. If you need to take classes or prepare your finances, take the time to save and plan. It may take a little longer than you expected, but it will be worth it in the end.
Once you have discovered your passion, incorporate three C’s and a T: Conviction, Commitment, Change, and Tenacity. Turn your passion into profit, as positive revenue streams are a key component of business success.
You are the only person who can put limitations on yourself. Get out of your own way, make your dreams and passion a priority, and watch everything else fall into place.
