ADRIENE’S INSPIRATION

First off, what inspired you to come up with a yoga subscription series?

Adriene: Our subscription series via VHX allows us to answer to more community requests who have been vocal about their need for a series they can use at home. (They were looking for) downloadable versions of the yoga practices that you can take anywhere without having to rely on WIFI…It also allows us to continue to cultivate community through creative projects that won’t rely on a huge sponsor to get it done. As much as we love making Yoga With Adriene practice videos we also have to honor the fact that we are not interested in just doing that  forever. (Though, the home yoga videos are not going anywhere!!! I love them!) Chris, my business partner, and I met on a film set. We have always wanted to build the foundation so that we could also make creative content. And in this regard, I think it is going to be pretty awesome. Wellness content should be inspiring, creative and authentic…All great teachers or guides should be inspiring their friends and their students by owning and sharing their own process. It is so much more interesting than just dictating. With the subscription series, we will be able to produce more (creative) content AND make it available at a cheaper price.                                                                 Photo from YogaWithAdriene.com

THANKSGIVING PRE-GAME YOGA TIPS

So, what’s the best yoga poses and moves to burn off those extra helpings of Thanksgiving dinner?

Adriene: Oh, well what I would suggest is that you wake up Thanksgiving morning with a yoga practice! Put the coffee pot on and select one of my morning sequences, a gentle somethin’ somethin‘, or the YWA Gratitude Practice. Even a five to ten minute freestyle stretchy stretch that you can do in your comfy pants. Think about what you are grateful for and then notice how you feel. Then relish in that and enjoy your holiday. Please enjoy your holiday GUILT FREE.

After Thanksgiving, I suggest some Sun Salutations set to some up beat music you like to assist in burning off those extra helpings. Otherwise, I suggest a Yoga Flow or a video from our Weight Loss series. If you only have time for a little check in  then lie on your back and do some yogi cycles to activate your core and support your back!

YOGA TIPS FOR THAT TENSE CONVERSATION AT THE TABLE

How about the best move to decompress after a heated family conversation about politics?

Adriene: Good one! I’d say a deep breath will do. Or freak your family out by doing some neck rolls right in front of them. But for an instant stress buster, sit up tall and draw circles with your nose.

ONCE YOU’VE INDULGED IN THAT SECOND (OR THIRD) HELPING, MORE YOGA TO THE RESCUE!

Are there any great moves to help with digestion?

Adriene: Twists and breath work. Two things you can do at home, and trust me, a little goes a long way. We have a great holiday digestion video as well as some videos devoted to twists. The key is to support the length of your spine and to use the breath to move within the post. Don’t crank or push. Connect – and your internal organs will be so happy!

GETTING A HEAD START ON THOSE JANUARY RESOLUTIONS

Any advice for yoga beginners who want to start yoga this holiday season?

Adriene: We are our thoughts. Remember that. As you begin practice, simply choose to experience your body! Experience your body without judgment (it can be hard) and enjoy the process. We use a lot of humor and try to just keep the invitation open to move in a way that feels good and show up for yourself. Then watch it unfold. Showing up is the hardest part.

Once we shift to the mindset that yoga is about the ride not the end product I think we truly discover how it benefits us and realize how much we actually do belong. All types. Find What Feels Good is the mantra and not BE GOOD. You don’t need to be flexible and you don’t need to be anything. Just be you. And enjoy!
