BELLA to the Core host Vanessa Coppes walks you through the impact mantras, inspirational quotes and stories have in our daily lives.
It takes very little time to find posts that will tell you about mindfulness, the power of positive thinking or the motivational mantras of highly successful people.
Truth: They only tell half of the story.
What happens to the many people who read those stories and instead of being inspired, they come away feeling even worse than they did before?
The conversation in their head immediately shifts to ‘Well, I’ll never be like that. I’m not as successful as those people are and I don’t have the money those people do. They’re way more invested than I am.’
Does that sound familiar? That has a name. It’s called negative self-talk and we are all guilty of it.
One of the best and simplest books I’ve ever read is “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz. He explains the first agreement as being the most powerful one and the most difficult to honor, “Be Impeccable with Your Word.”
Simple, yet challenging.
Your word is the power you have to create. Through your words you manifest everything.
Negative self-talk gets in our way. It latches on and can and distract us from our goals.
You have the power to change how you speak to yourself and exactly what you say. You can transcend negative self-talk by simply saying that you will do so, right now!
One way to do this is by repeating a mantra.
A mantra is a word or sound repeated to aid concentration in meditation. It can also be a statement or slogan repeated frequently.
Mantras literally have the power to interrupt negativity and invite change in your life. Studies conducted on mantras show that using them can reduce stress levels. Mantras have the ability to actually change your brain’s chemistry. How cool is that?
Listen to a few mantras some of our BELLAs shared with me for this show…
Do you have a go to mantra? Would love to hear from you!
