A slightly unwholesome obsession

As the end of my last week at BELLA approaches, I am left feeling satisfied yet ready to go home. I deem that I will definitely miss the familiar atmosphere and all my fellow interns but having not been at home in approximately five months (I go to boarding school), the thought of seeing my family greatly appeals to me. But mainly, I’ve come to realize that ever since the BlogHer event, I have developed an unhealthy obsession with reading online blogs. Within the past few days, I have found myself spending increasingly more time with my eyes glued to my computer screen. Though reading blogs has always been one of my preferred pass times, lately I’ve kicked it up a notch or two and have so deeply immersed myself in this activity, that I could practically start my own blog! My favorite blogs mainly target fashion, health and beauty, among other things. Between product recommendations, healthy recipes, new workout trends and celebrity style, I couldn’t choose one preferred blog, so here are a few of my favorites that make a daily appearance on my email inbox and swamp my safari tabs:

Goop: Launched in the fall of 2008 out of award-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow’s kitchen, Goop was originally conceived as a weekly e-mail newsletter. Today overseen by a small but effective team of people, Goop’s daily content is not only my favorite go-to blog for carefully curated city guides and travel inquiries, but also a fully-fledged lifestyle brand.

The Coveteur: Founded by Stephanie Mark, Jake Rosenberg, and Erin Kleinberg in 2011, The Coveteur began as a passion project exploring the homes and closets of global street style stars and tastemakers, and has evolved into exploring all things behind-the-scenes: lifestyle, fashion, and culture. With an emphasis on highly personalized curation, The Coveteur goes one step further in examining the creative process, inspiration and influence of the individuals who are defining today’s spirit.

Man Repeller: Founded by Leandra Medine, the acclaimed blogger and author notorious for her eccentric style, Man Repeller is a lighthearted blog which can be best described as humorous fusion of fashion trends, feminism, SAT words and culture. Medine dubs Manrepelling as “outfitting oneself in a sartorially offensive way that will result in repelling members of the opposite sex. Such garments include but are not limited to harem pants, boyfriend jeans, overalls, shoulder pads, full length jumpsuits, jewelry that resembles violent weaponry and clogs.”

The Sartorialist: The best street style blog out there as far as I’m concerned, as well as my inspiration and model when asked to take street style pictures for Bella’s Instagram. Built around the works of the talented Scott Schuman, whose work resides in the permanent collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, The Sartorialist is the perfect balance between candid street style snaps and journal-like entries.

Who what wear: Established in 2006 by co-founders Hillary Kerr, a Los Angeles-based writer for publications such as ELLE, Teen Vogue, and Nylon and Katherine Power, the West Coast Editor for ELLE and ELLEgirl, Who What Wear posts daily content on current trends in celebrity and runway fashion, as well as shopping suggestions from its fashion and beauty experts.

Byrdie Beauty: Launched in 2013 by the creators of, Byrdie is a shoppable online content platform focused on all things beauty, covering everything from celebrity beauty secrets, to insider tips from hairstylists and makeup artists, beauty news, and product reviews and instructional “how-tos”.

Into the gloss: Run by Emily Weiss, a Vogue assistant with an affinity for beauty products, and an editorial team based in New York, with contributors in Paris, London, LA, Philadelphia, Austin, and Singapore. Into the Gloss, or ITG, as it’s affectionately known, reviews beauty products and interviews models, makeup artists, and the inspirational women of our time about their beauty routines and suggestions.

 The Chalkboard Mag: Launched in 2012 by Pressed Juicery, the popular West Coast juicing company, to bring readers the best in wellness lifestyle resources, The Chalkboard Mag brings together wellness trends, nutrition, healthy recipes, natural beauty picks, and toxin-free living ideas. Their features focus on everyone from health experts to style stars, to food bloggers.

Well + Good: Launched in 2010 by Alexia Brue and Melisse Gelula, two ambitious journalists, as a tasteful website devoted to the trendy wellness scene, Well+Good is known for its impeccable reporting and trend-spotting on the healthy living beat. In four years, Well+Good has managed to become the leading source of intel on boutique fitness and the juice industry, cutting-edge nutrition, natural beauty, and more.
