A Painting With A Voice

| June 26, 2015 | Reply

At three months old I uttered my first word. Two short months later my parents couldn’t get me to stop talking. Even at such a young age I was captivated by how a few syllables could create such a strong mental image. However, as a young girl I did not have the ability to recognize how these images differ from one person to another. As I grew older, I began to appreciate the relationship between sounds and images more. On the contrary, I began to realize how difficult it is to portray visual interpretations of the abstract sounds one hears.

However, “the new medium” Soundwall mends the difficult relationship between sounds and images in a unique and coherent way. Soundwall is the first canvas that doubles as a speaker. This original canvas allows artists to show their audience the sounds behind the images they produce—something that has been very difficult to achieve in the past.
I can personally say Soundwall lives up to its expectations. On Monday, June 22nd, I took a look inside Soundwalls NYC showroom and left in awe. What gives Soundwall such a universal appeal is that you do not have to be an artist to appreciate the product. Artists have the ability to buy a blank canvas while art collectors can buy a finished painting.

In the Soundwall showroom, artist Bisco Smith’s paintings were on display to purchase. At first sight Bisco’s abstract artwork captured my attention; however, it was the sounds of the painting that made me love it. The sounds Bisco paired with the paintings allowed me to see his painting from a different perspective- his perspective.

In addition to canvas’, consumers can also purchase chalkboard Soundwalls. To learn more about Soundwall you can visit their site
