A Lakeside Road Trip Beats the Beach This Summer

When there’s a face-off between the beach versus the lake, the lake will always win in my book. A weekend getaway to a lake is always so relaxing and filled with fun. We recently took a road trip up to Saratoga Springs and Lake George with Buick to experience the amazing features of their Lacrosse Avenir and Enclave Avenir cars. We instantly fell in love with the Enclave, which is the perfect sport utility vehicle for anyone who spends their summers road tripping or driving up to a lake for the weekend. One of our favorite features was the rear camera mirror which allows the rearview mirror to function as a traditional camera, giving you uninterrupted views behind you (it’s especially great when you have the trunk filled to the brim with lake gear!) no matter how filled the backseat is.

The cruise control is also a wonderful feature, especially on long drives, to help you stay on track (and in your lane!). There’s also an extra compartment underfloor in the trunk for extra storage of any lake accessories you might be towing — think life vests, paddles, etc. It’s really built for road tripping.

But our trip wasn’t all about the Buick. Once we reached our luxurious hotel up in Saratoga Springs, we were immediately welcomed into a gorgeous Victorian-style building called The Adelphi Hotel. Everything here was to die for, from the immaculate rooms (and heated floors and giant bathtub in the bathroom), to the nightly champagne and cheese in library during happy hour. Its recent $24 million renovation retains the old charm of the original, while updating it to make it a five-star travel experience. It was truly a delight staying there.

Plus, The Adelphi has a partnership with Chef David Burke, so all of the restaurants on property are equally appetizing. The Blue Hen, Morrissey’s and Salt & Char are all great options to choose from during your stay. If surf and turf is your thing, then make sure Salt & Char is at the top of your list.

Don’t fill up though, because there’s plenty more tasty food to be had in the area. An evening at the nearby Mansion of Saratoga, a stunning local bed and breakfast, also hosts a supper club and is a one-of-a-kind spot to enjoy your dinner outdoors. Here, you can learn all about its interesting history and walk through the halls of this beautiful space. We also were some of the first people to see the unveiling of the all new Buick Regal Avenir, which is sure to give all other sedans a run for their money. Its leather quilt-stitched seating will win you over in a heartbeat.

A short drive away you will come upon Lake George, where we spent a fabulous day behind the scenes at the illustrious Hacker-Craft warehouse where we saw firsthand how much dedication and work goes into building these beautiful mahogany boats. Then, we spent the afternoon cruising around on lake to experience how smooth Hacker-Craft boats cut across the water. We also saw how easily you can tow a boat with the Buick Enclave!

And if you need a break from the water for some sustenance, the Chateau on the Lake is a scenic spot to grab some lunch. A meal on the lake after a long drive and a short boat ride is all you need to realize that the lake is where it’s at.
