What to Wear in NYC

| April 27, 2012 | Reply

New York City is America’s fashion capital, so BELLA NYC tapped the city’s top designers to get the scoop on the latest local fashions. Here, their favorite fall styles for their fellow New Yorkers.

Blanca Lesser, OLIVIA + JOY

“New York City women are constantly on the go, throwing everything they have in one

pocket or another, so we pride ourselves on creating functional handbags that don’t compromise on style. If you see a pocket, it’s a functioning pocket,” says Blanca Lesser, designer of the affordable fashion-forward handbag line, Olivia + Joy. For a bag with room to spare, Lesser recommends Olivia + Joy’s Lavish Lady Satchel, $92. “It’s a classic – sure to give you a timeless look,” she says. “And for something that allows you enough room for your necessities, plus a few extra items, try our Suspect Large Flap, $78.” Available at

“There’s no season we love dressing for more than fall in New York,” exclaims Dawn Mayo, creative director of the chic silk blouse and dress brand, Chelsea Flower. “The leaves are changing, the air is cooler and we can play with layering! What we love to have most in our fall wardrobe is a mix of strong, classic styles, but with a twist. How great is it to take off a cropped leather jacket to reveal just a little bit of skin on your shoulders or your back? We’ve designed our blouses for the season, like with our Open Shoulder Top, $252, and Hidden Placket Shirt, $224, to do just that. It’s appropriate enough to wear to work but with that little bit of sex appeal that makes them great for a date.” Available at and

Marianne Bock, 525 AMERICA

“Fall is all about effortless fashion, especially in New York,” says Marianne Bock, vicepresident of design for women’s knitwear company, 525 America. “With the temperatures dropping and warmth now being a priority, it’s important to have transitional pieces that can take you into this season in style. Our Chunky Tweed Sweater, $152, and Contrast Stitch Poncho, $148, are the perfect basics for work or the weekend.” Available at and
