For a noticeable yet natural makeover with little downtime, advanced injectable facial rejuvenation continues to raise the bar for outpatient anti-aging treatments. Today, more than ever, patients are looking to rejuvenate multiple areas at once for an overall fresh, more youthful version of themselves. Dubbed the “liquid face-lift,”celebrities and busy women (and men) on-the-go seek out this rapid recovery injectable treatment for a boost of youth. Might you want a boost, too?
Injectable fillers such as Juvéderm Voluma and Restylane Lyft offer superior staying and sculpting power, with slower bodily absorption—leading to results that last up to 12 months. These advanced hyaluronic acid fillers, coupled with the skill of an expert facial plastic surgeon, puts the ability to reshape delicate facial contours, well,in the palm of one’s hand.
Whether you want to put your best face forward for a special event, or are looking for a temporary solution that will bridge the gap until you undergo a minimally invasive surgical face-lift, a liquid face-lift may be just the answer you are seeking.
To understand how the liquid face-lift works, we must first understand the nature of facial aging. If we think of a young face as a newly inflated helium balloon, we can then imagine the aging process as the balloon’s deflation. By adding volume skillfully back into areas such as the cheeks, jawline, marionette lines, and nasolabial folds, we can regain the appearance of the youthful volume we once enjoyed. When performed properly, fillers can lift jowls and cheeks, and smooth out drooping sections of the face. It can even be added to the dark under-eye circles in an area called the “tear trough,” where the eyes become hollow.
Injecting facial fillers is an art no different than sculpting. When performing this or any other type of facial rejuvenation, it is important to keep in mind the Golden Proportion of beauty, also referred to by Renaissance artists as the “Golden Ratio.” This is a mathematical ratio that describes the relationship of one length to another. This ratiois consistently reported to be present in beautiful things, from architecture to animals to human beings.
Liquid face-lifts yield the strongest results among patients between 40 and 60 years of age. While results are almost instantaneous and extremely impressive, I must mention two downsides to this approach. The first downside is that a liquid face-lift is a temporary fix, requiring one or possibly two injection sessions each year, which can become more time consuming over time than undergoing an actual face-lift. Also, these treatment sessions require multiple vials of filler and Botox, which can add up to quite a cost, especially over multiple years. In fact, it is not uncommon to spend the same amount of money in three years on liquid face-lifts that you would on one surgical face-lift, with the surgical face-lift lasting approximately a decade. Another disadvantage of a liquid face-lift is that as we get older and our facial skin becomes more lax, an increasing amount of injectable material is needed to fill the increasing void of volume, but the results will show a decreasing amount of improvement. It is at this point that patients usually opt for surgery.
There is no perfect age or perfect time to undergo a liquid face-lift or minimally invasive surgical face-lift. It simply depends on how much improvement you are looking for given the downtime and costs associated.
Before choosing to undergo any medical procedure, it is important to do your homework. For an aesthetic facial procedure, you should select a board-certified facial plastic surgeon with impressive before and after results. Meet with the doctor prior to the procedure to make sure he or she understands your anti-aging goals and answers all your questions to your satisfaction.
