A natural makeup look can be more challenging to achieve than an intricate eye design with five eye shadows. Although it’s difficult, it’s not impossible! With a little guidance, you’ll be adding this look into your makeup rotation between your smoky eye and bold lip.
Effortless beauty is ideal when you want your skills, not your lipstick, to stand out in that important interview, or when you’re dating that guy who says he prefers women with no makeup. The truth is, we’re all naturally beautiful, and when applied correctly, makeup will accentuate that beauty.
Follow these guidelines to put your best – fresh! – face forward.
“I woke up like this.”
If you’re feeling too makeup-y, the first thing to consider is your skin condition. It is crucial to exfoliate and hydrate to create a smooth surface for your makeup. This is one of the most important steps for a naturally flawless complexion. Once your skin is prepped, it’s time to reach for the CC cream! Lightweight yet power-packed, a good CC cream will calm redness and even skin tone. Simply massage into skin starting from the center of the face, blending outwards.
“What dark circles?”
The wrong color or formula of concealer can draw attention to discoloration instead of hiding it. Pick a peach-based color to neutralize darkness, and always, always test under the eye (not on the back of the hand) to choose the appropriate color.
Concealer looking cakey? Try mixing in an eye cream to prevent it from settling into fine lines and to add an extra boost of radiance.
Pass on the powder.
Most powders (setting, foundation, bronzer, highlighter, and blush) will stick to any dry patches and accentuate fine lines and pores. Creams and liquids are the best at mimicking skin’s natural texture.
Go for the gold!
One of my favorite tricks to looking fresh faced and well rested is a dot of highlight powder or shadow on the inner corners of the eyes, near the tear duct. Be sure to use a product two to three shades lighter than your skin tone that has fine, reflective pigment (no glitter!).
To line, or not to line?
The greatest struggle in keeping a natural look is often the eyeliner. Here’s the secret: Wiggle a dark brown eyeliner into the lash line from beneath the lashes. This will create a naturally defined eye with undetectable eyeliner.
Eyes on the prize.
Further accentuate your eyes by giving your lashes some TLC. Blast your curler with a blow dryer for a long lasting curl. Then, coat lashes with a conditioning mascara that leaves them feathery, or use a clear brow gel instead of mascara for an even softer look.
