Going from a sweltering summer to a fantastic fall doesn’t mean you have retire all your warm weather favorites. Here are my tips on how to make them work year round:
Lightweight fabrics can still have a place when the temperatures drop. Try contrasting your fabrics, mixing soft layers with heavy. I love heavy hand knits over flimsy tops or structured jackets with silky dresses.
Look for Length
For spring and summer, I always recommend investing in a maxi-dress. Not only can it go from day to night effortlessly, but it can go from summer to fall by incorporating tights and shoes.
Accessories are key when transitioning looks. In the summer you may pair that skirt and top with sandals and a bright colored bag, but when falls rolls along, try switching it up with stronger, tougher accessories like hard leather bags, men’s style boots, and shoes in darker colors.
Mix in the Neutrals
Summer colors work well in June and July, but mixing in dark neutrals like black, navy and grey can also help the seasonal look. A crisp white cotton shirt or a black turtleneck is an easy addition to any transitional look.
