Midtown isn’t usually synonymous with a hopping nightlife scene. Head downtown and you can find clubs, bars and everything in between. Midtown doesn’t exude the hipness that other parts of Manhattan do. But hospitality group Quality Branded (of Quality Meats and Quality Eats fame) seeks to change that with the opening of nightclub Squares. Located in the NoMad District, Squares will be the after party space that the neighborhood was missing. “We immersed ourselves in all the old club clichés as we designed Squares,” said Eric Adolfsen, Reunion Goods & Services Art Director. “We looked to the great private clubs of London and New York, even conducting a little field research at the stodgiest clubs we could gain access to! The reimagining of these interior traditions, by rendering them in pixelated mosaics, amused us in the way it riffs on nostalgia for classic architecture and at the same time, nostalgia for classic game arcades: a contemporary wink at a classic New York trope.”
The result is a club that is covered in mosaic-inspired designs using over 25 thousand Japanese glazed tiles, in a, you guessed it, square-shaped space reminiscent of a historic hall. The perimeter of the club is set with leather seating, smoky mirrored panels, and a fireplace. Opening night was helmed by DJs Hannah Bronfman and Cole Ramstad and even saw an appearance from J-Lo! Small bites will be available, with options such as deviled eggs, toasted ravioli and caviar & salmon checkers, all of which will be served in cube-like presentations (we get it, Squares). Guests can expect the cocktail menu to pay ode to classic members club cocktails, with options like the signature Lego Club Mule, French 750, and even a house-made energy drink, available to mix with any spirit. Bottle service will also be featured — their Veuve on Veuve service comes with chilled bottles of Veuve Clicquot, Veuve ice cubes, a choice of bitters and long peels of fresh citrus.
Squares is located on 360 Park Avenue South (entrance on East 26th Street between Park and Madison Avenues), and will be open Thursday through Saturday 11:00 p.m. to close.
