Personal growth and well-being are becoming more important in our daily lives. After all, who wants to live a life that doesn’t have personal challenges and targets? Mind, body, and soul are the three elements that we should be taking care of. While it can seem like a challenge to do this, there are some easy steps that you can adopt to put you in the center of everything.

It’s time to focus on you.

Start with simple goals and challenges

Look at the areas of your life that you would like to change. Would you like to be happier, more content? Are you stuck in a rut and you’re not sure how to get out of it? Looking at problem areas in your life is imperative to making changes. So, make a list of things that you would like to improve and work on your goals from there. No one wants to feel that they are drifting through life. There are some simple ways that you can set targets and challenges, but you need to look at both short-term and long-term goals.

Let’s focus on the big picture. What do you want to see happen in your life in the next decade? Perhaps you want to buy a property, or you want a big promotion at all. Identify what you want and how you need to get there.

Once you have your overall goal in sight, look at what steps you need to achieve said goal. Then, look at the mini-steps that you need to take in order to do this.

Let’s look at our work life as an area of change and use an example.

So, you want to become the head of purchasing at Prada. This is not an easy goal to accomplish when you look at it as a whole. What you need to do next is look at the mini challenges that you need to address in order to become here. You may need to go back to college and attain a degree in Business. You may need to set up a LinkedIn account and look at the ‘right people’ within this area of expertise. You may need to discover social and networking events where key movers and shakers within the industry will be. These will all take time to discover and to find out more about, but each step brings you closer to your goals.

Focus on the lifetime goal as a starting point, and then how you can work down into mini-challenges over the next week, month and year so that you can achieve them.

 

Create a plan

No one can achieve a goal without a plan. No one! You can’t just aim in the dark and hope it works out for the best. Planning and strategy are the keys to your success, and with the drive to chase your dreams you are sure to succeed.

How can you realize your dreams? What opportunities can you take now to realize those dreams? And how you can leverage the relationships that you already have to get to where you need to be. In our previous example, education played a factor – a good degree will take around three years to finalize. So, add this to your plan. Use a calendar or diary and plot out the dates that you have in mind to complete the mini-steps of your overarching dream. Once you have done this, you can ensure that you are on track and retain your focus. It’s so easy to get bogged down in the day to day things that we often lose sight of the bigger picture. It’s vital that you remember that you have many strengths and that you need to focus on said strengths in order to move forward. Having a plan can help keep you centered.

 

Keeping calm

Those who have goals and want to secure personal growth become so absorbed in what they are doing that they become almost frenzied in their approach. Becoming frazzled and burnt out won’t get you there any quicker. On the contrary, you are more likely to fail. With this in mind, you need to ensure that you are focussing on your emotional well-being and remaining cool and collected during this time. Remember to meditate, take time out for you. While it can be difficult to see the bigger picture in times of colossal change, do be sure to make time for you. Yoga, Pilates, and meditation are all fantastic ways to clear your mind and improve wellness. You will also feel the benefits of reduced anxiety and depression as well as improve your overall brain function. Your brain is the most complex organ, but also the one that needs the most attention. By keeping your cool during this time of upheaval, and focussing on your mental well-being, you will have greater clarity and actualize your goals more quickly and efficiently.

What could be more important than your mental health? So many people fail to understand that true wellness is as a result of impeccable mental health. Of course, you will get stressed that is inevitable, it’s how you deal with it that counts.

Comfort zone? What comfort zone?

Ah, breaking out of the comfort zone. So many of us want to do it yet so few of us knows how. The comfort zone is something of an abstract concept – it’s our safe place. It’s routine. It is ordinary. But, when it comes to improving personal growth, there is no way that you can stay in your safe space. You don’t have to take a gung-ho approach to leaving your comfort zone. Rather, it is better for your overall well-being, that you take it slowly. Do something each day that makes you feel uncomfortable. Make it become more ‘normal.’ Don’t rationalize your behavior if you know it is going to impact on your personal growth.

 

What challenges are you currently facing and how can you overcome them? Maybe it’s talking to new people or public speaking. If this is the case, make an effort to speak to strangers. The important thing is, is that you take control of your fears and leave your comfort zone. You don’t have to be held back by the things that frighten you. Rather, own them and control them and make them your own. Once you have done this, you will feel more confident and much more focussed on ensuring and actualizing your goals. In essence, it’s all about taking daily risks.

 

Forget about failure

One of the reasons that people are terrified of improving on themselves is that they are scared of failure. While this comes down to fear of leaving the comfort zone, it also somewhat relates to people living in the past. We’re all guilty of saying “remember that time…” it’s time to live in the future. If you hark on about the past, you are never going to move forward. Forget about what if’s and potential failure (which is unlikely to happen, only hiccups and learning curves are ahead as well as success)  and focus on the future. Be present and forget the past. The only time that you should remember the past is when you are learning from it.

A journey of personal growth is never going to be easy. It’s one of the biggest things that you can do, but the results are phenomenal. No one wants to be stuck in a rut, whether that’s in your professional or your personal life. Taking the plunge into becoming a better, bigger and greater version of yourself is one of the most awesome things that you can do. It will soothe your mind, body, and soul and ensure that you are focussed on your personal journey. Progress doesn’t come easy, but it will certainly be worth the hard work. Focussing on you will see results, and you’ll become a beacon of positivity and happiness because of this.
