SEQUENCE – Disrupting the Cycle of Violence

After rising to the top editorial ranks in New York’s fashion industry, Ariela Suster returned to her home country of El Salvador with the mission to disrupt the cycle of violence that marks it as one of the most dangerous locations in the world. A series of fateful events led to the creation of SEQUENCE, a lifestyle brand that employs and empowers a group of at-risk youth to create vibrant, handcrafted artisanal products in their own community.

KiraKira – Encouraging Girls to Pursue Engineering Careers

Beloved jewelry designer Suz Somersall was shocked when she learned that only 7 percent of mechanical engineers are female. This startling stat lead her to found KiraKira, a 3D design academy that encourages young women to become engineers and jewelry designers. Students learn how to create and submit their own jewelry designs, while KiraKira 3D prints and sells those designs via KiraKira.com. Proceeds of the students’ sales go directly to their college tuition fund.

Liberty United – Transforming Guns into Glitz

Each year more than 17,000 American children fall victim to gun violence, evoking many of us to yearn for new solutions for change. Social entrepreneur Peter Thum is acting on that passion by transforming illegal guns and ammunition provided by police into high-end jewelry. Additionally, every Liberty United jewelry purchase funds non-profit programs to protect and save the lives of at-risk children.
