When BELLA NYC hosted its first White Party last summer, the magazine looked no further than the House of Papier to design its invitations. The sought-after design house is known for its chic alternatives to traditional wedding and event stationery. Founded in 2007 by Melissa McDowell, the company name combines McDowell’s German heritage with the language and concepts of the fashion world. “‘Papier’ is the German word for paper and ‘house’ refers to the fashion and design houses of Europe, where I grew up,” explains McDowell.

Every February and September, McDowell can be found under the tents during New York Fashion Week garnering inspiration for the next House of Papier collection. In addition to fashionable invitations, the company is expanding into stationery.

“Our first product is the Editorial Checklist Planner, which is for bloggers,” says McDowell. More stationery products will launch throughout the year.
