BELLA-IG-1

Many women of old Hollywood are icons thanks to their talent and contribution to social standards because of the way they presented themselves to the public. From Marilyn to Audrey, these women were rarely caught outside of character.

They created some tough shoes to fill for modern day celebs, and in defense of reality stars and actresses of today, these icons didn’t experience the same invasion of privacy. There were fewer paparazzi hunting for bad hair days and no pressure to post makeup-free selfies, and for that, I’m grateful. I prefer to remember them as the images depict – flawless. Although they probably didn’t “wake up like this,” their legacy still lives on.

If you combine each one of these elements to your makeup routine, you’ll be singing “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” before you know what’s happening!

Camera-Ready Complexion – Being camera-ready without the help of a Instagram filters requires a full coverage, demi- matte foundation. Before applying, prep skin with a primer that fills in pores to create a smooth canvas. Then, start at the center of the face and slowly blend the foundation outwards to concentrate the coverage where it is most needed. Focusing on the t-zone, finish with a dusting of loose, translucent powder. Voila … a velvety complexion is yours!

Luxe Liner – Crucial to this recipe is the defined (and often winged) eyeliner. The sharper the line and the deeper the pigment, the better. I find the simplest way to accomplish this is with liquid or gel liner. Begin by tight-lining the upper lash line, connecting the dots between the lashes. From here, build the line’s width until you reach the desired thickness. To mimic the iconic eye design, emphasize the upper lid by keeping the under eye clear of liner and bright with concealer.

Bold Brow – A finished brow is necessary to bring balance. Eyebrows that appear nonexistent or too strong will throw the finished product off kilter. Brush brows upward and remove all stray hairs that fall below the natural arch. Fill in bald spots with short, swift strokes to imitate the look of natural hair. Brush product through to keep brows from looking drawn on. Perfectly groomed and polished should be the goal when it comes to the furry twins.

Powerful Pout – What would a pinup be without her signature red lip? Pick one that compliments your complexion. Fair skin should head toward tomato and fire engine reds. Medium and olive tones look great in true reds. Deep complexions are stunning with oxblood and Bordeaux. Whatever your shade, make it bold, and make it matte.

Take the time to prep the lip area. There’s nothing worse than an attention-getting lip color that’s bleeding, or accentuating dry, chapped lips. Exfoliate with a scrub, hydrate with a balm, absorb excess moisture with powder, and define with a lip liner before applying your red. Always!
