IPL

The summer season has come to end and we welcome the cooler weather that fall brings. Looking in the mirror at our post-summer skin reminds us that the sun can be a friend or foe. I know I enjoyed playing golf outdoors this past summer and despite wearing sun block and protecting my skin, I am aware that the sun rays have harmful effects on the skin especially over time. Do you have spots, freckles or damage from the sun? Have you tried over the counter creams and serums wanting, and waiting to see results or even the slightest bit of a difference? Wishing for a professional treatment that can go deep into the skin for real results in reversing skin damage? I want to bring you the news on one of the most advanced light therapy techniques to revitalize your skin. FotoFacial® treatments such as IPL (Intense Pulse Light) physically improve the texture of your skin making your face appear smoother and firmer as fine lines and wrinkles gradually disappear. If you are interested in reducing fine lines around your eyes and mouth or lighten hyper pigmentation (brown/age spots) light therapy might be an option for you.

What is Intense Pulsed Light Therapy and How does it work?

Intense Pulsed Light, (IPL), is an interesting and effective way to restore your skin’s natural and youthful glow. IPL helps to reduce fine lines, wrinkles, sun spots, large pores and gives an overall refreshed look to the skin. IPL delivers high intensity pulses of a broadband spectrum of light quite different from that of a laser. These gentle pulses of light are applied to the skin and penetrate deep into the dermis (lower layers of the skin). This helps to target the specific areas that are damaged and helps to leave the epidermis (outer most layers of the skin) in tact – which means little to no downtime for the patient.

Fotofacial or Intense Pulse Light (IPL) treatments utilize the leading advances in light technology to improve the appearance of your skin.  IPL penetrates below the skin’s surface to help stimulate production of your skin’s collagen. It can be used on your face, neck, upper chest, arms and hands. IPL treatments use different types of wavelengths (each is designated) to target different structures of your skin. The benefit of all of these types of wavelengths is to help produce new collagen.

What are the benefits of IPL?

IPL treatments benefits include:

  • Improved skin texture and general appearance,
  • Improve sun damage and age related photo damage,
  • Little to no downtime.

As a potential Patient… What Should I expect?

The 30 to 45 minute procedure is done in my office setting. It is a “lunch time“ procedure that is quick, gentle, non-invasive, with little to no downtime. Some patients may be a bit pink or rosy for a few hours after their treatment.  All patients are able to resume daily activities with zero interruption. Once we determine the degree of sun damage and photo aging, you will require at least 3 treatments that should be scheduled 4-6 weeks apart. During the time that you are being treated you should minimize the amount of sun exposure.  Most people see a decrease in fine lines and brown discoloration such as sun damaged spots.

IPL may take several sessions to achieve your goals. As with most treatments results are not instantaneous.  The pigmentation that has been treated may at first appear darker and then after about a week the dark skin will shed off like a scab and the original dark spot will have disappeared or will be lighter.

The benefits are more youthful, luminous, younger-looking skin.  With innovative technology like IPL available, and other rejuvenating procedures designed to improve the look of skin, reduce wrinkles, tighten and help reverse the signs of aging, I am able to help my patients with all types of aesthetic needs and goals. I welcome you to come to my office for a consultation to learn how you can maximize your beauty potential. Now is the time to help yourself feel more confident in your skin.
