March will be coming in like a lion soon. Although we are getting some hints of spring here in NYC the weather is still cold and there’s just something about those bold, luscious reds that I love to elevate my spirits.
Super Tuscans are the ultimate opulent, sexy wines and Montalcino’s Tenuta Luce has you covered with Luce, the estate’s flagship release, and Lucente, its esteemed “second wine”. Because who doesn’t love making a bold statement when it comes to vino? If you’re looking for the perfect bottle of red, these two are most worthy of applause.
The 2014 Luce ($95) is beautiful blend of Merlot and Sangiovese with great depth and complexity. Intense aromas of black fruits, bitter cherry, and elegant notes of cocoa powder, and espresso. On the palate, the wine’s fine tannins give the wine a harmonious balance and a long, lightly spiced finish.
Lucente ($30), in its 2015 vintage, blends soft, fruit driven Merlot with elegant, structured Sangiovese. Ripe, warm flavors of plum, blackberry, espresso, and minerals. As far as its nose, Lucente displays an expressive and elegant aromatic bouquet of dried herbs, menthol, and chocolate. Texturally, Lucente is rich and full, with glossy, velvety tannins.
